The Hague – January 1, 2026 Rights Radar for Human Rights, based in The Hague, Netherlands, has condemned the violations committed by the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) forces against hundreds of residents in the Hadramout Governorate, Yemen’s largest Governorate by land area. Rights Radar stated that it documented approximately 2,361 cases of violations committed by elements of the STC forces and their supporters across several cities and regions within the governorate. These incidents took place from the beginning to the end of November 2025. Rights Radar explained that the documented violations ranged from killing, injury, arrest, and enforced disappearance to cases of abuse and torture. In addition, there were numerous cases of raiding and looting that targeted dozens of public and private facilities and residences. Rights Radar confirmed that the military campaign carried out by the STC in Hadramout resulted in the death of 38 people and the injury of 49 others. Furthermore, 21 people remain missing and are considered victims of enforced disappearance unless proven otherwise. Rights Radar’s monitoring team reported that arbitrary arrests targeted more than 60 people, approximately 10 of whom were subjected to torture and severe physical abuse. The monitored and documented incidents indicated that a large proportion of these violations was driven by racial and regional motives, as well as political and territorial factors. Regarding the raiding of public and private facilities, the monitoring team confirmed that 840 facilities and homes were raided and looted. Most of these were private properties, with the exception of 17 government facilities. The violations against these buildings and facilities included raids, seizures, and both total and partial looting, as well as the partial destruction or damage of some facilities. Specifically, elements affiliated with the STC and its supporters raided 17 government buildings, seizing some and looting or damaging the contents of others. In residential areas, 32 homes were completely looted, while 418 sustained partial looting. The monitoring team also confirmed widespread acts of looting, including the seizure of 23 cars, 32 motorcycles, 154 gas cylinders, and 109 head of livestock. Sources noted that the STC utilized various media platforms, religious pulpits, and public events to engage in direct incitement against opponents from different groups, primarily targeting civilians in areas subjected to armed raids. Eyewitnesses, including victims and local residents, confirmed that the raids and incursions were largely intentional, targeting homes, shops, and party or government headquarters. During these raids, forces carried out physical and verbal assaults, causing widespread fear and terror among the population, particularly women and children. Rights Radar reaffirms its condemnation of all violations committed by the Southern Transitional Council (STC) in Hadramout. The organization also calls on local, regional, and international authorities to hold those responsible to account and ensure that perpetrators do not evade justice. Rights Radar also demands urgent action to release all detainees and abductees held by STC forces and to disclose the fate of those who are missing or forcibly disappeared.
